Fresh Fruits and Vegetables... Make Healthier Kids!
Facts You Need To Know:
Did you know the SNAP or Food Stamp benefits have risen over 70% from 2007 to 2011?
Did you know that most benefits do not last most families the entire month? Most of the benefits are used up by the third week of the month.
Most people who receive food stamps, still rely on food banks to help them at least 6 months out of the year?
The average amount that a family receives is $133.85, which equals less than $1.50 per person, per meal!
Think about the last time you went grocery shopping... Think of the prices of fresh produce versus junk food? If you had to feed your family a meal, could you do it on less than $1.50 per person? Could you make it healthy? Would it be a filling meal?
Unless you are very creative or a frugal shopper, the answer is most likely, No.
That's why we have decided to take charge of our healthy eating and grow a community garden!
Each mom that participates in either the planting, weeding, watering, or harvesting of this garden will receive a share of its bounty. At the end of the harvest, any left over produce will be canned and stored for families who need it.
